Iron enters last: the fabric is held in direct contact with metal for several days, the marks emerging slowly and setting through contact with the tannins already in the cloth. The rust leaves a mark of its own — dense ferrous pooling across some areas, a thin scatter across others. Given the nature of the technique, the pattern may vary.
